Packing the Labor and Delivery Overnight BagPreparing for the Hospital During the Third Trimester
Getting ready for baby's arrival can be fun and exciting, but what about mom's needs? And dad's, for that matter? Find out what to bring to the hospital for labor.
One of the many preparations women make in their final weeks of pregnancy is the "labor bag:" a collection of necessities, essentials, and nice-to-have items that are meant to make Mom as comfortable as possible, under the circumstances. Many pregnancy advice sites recommend also packing a bag for Dad or the birth coach, storing items for during labor in one bag, and items meant for postpartum in another. The Postpartum BagOnce baby has arrived, the stay in the hospital may be a very short one. Still, it can be made as comfortable as possible with some good prior planning. Remember to bring the following items:
The Coach's BagEven though he or she won't be the one in labor, Mom's partner or birth coach could benefit from a few wisely selected items. They'll be sure to appreciate the thoughtfulness of having their own bag packed and ready to go.
Other Things to Think AboutBefore bringing baby home, there are some things to prepare in advance for a safe and comfortable journey. Take a moment to install the car seat before going into labor and bring any hats, coats and blankets that might be needed to keep baby warm. There are also some things that should be left at home, such as valuables that could be lost or damaged. Don't pack jewelry, lots of cash or other expensive items. In addition, hospitals will provide medications, diapers, and a breast pump (if required), as well as mesh underwear and maxi pads, so don't waste space in the bag with these items. References:
